Gene S. Schneyer, Tenor
Gene Schneyer has been singing with The Bloom Consort since 1992.
His first exposure to Renaissance vocal music was in his high school madrigal choir (a-many years ago, shortly after the Baroque period), and it has remained his favorite vocal pastime ever since. Gene and fellow Consort member Anne Stevenson Smith have performed Renaissance music together since high school days.
Other groups Gene has performed with over the years include the University of Pennsylvania Glee Club, the Schola Cantorum of Oxford University (several-time winner of the BBCs nationwide amateur choir competition), and Gilbert & Sullivan productions with the G&S Players and The Savoy Company, both in Philadelphia (the latter being the oldest continually existing G&S troupe in the world, founded in 1901).
He has performed choral works with the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Pennsylvania Ballet Company, and has sung at Philadelphias Academy of Music, the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and, believe it or not, Giants Stadium (for the 1986 Statue of Liberty centennial).
Gene's lovely wife, Debby, sings with The Savoy Company, son Evan sings with the Pennchants, an a cappella group at the University of Pennsylvania, and daughter Julie sings in choirs at Cheltenham (PA) high school; Kahlua, their Golden Retriever, does not sing, but is an appreciative listener.
